Key takeaways from Semantic Data Europe 2025
Taxonomy, Ontology and Knowledge Graphs
It was fantastic to meet so many of you at the recent Semantic Data Europe 2025: Taxonomy, Ontology, and Knowledge Graphs event on 26 June in London.
Our very own Marc Stephenson, Director and Information Architect here at Metataxis, attended this annual conference for the second time as a panel speaker and shares his experience of the day:
On 26 June, I attended the second yearly Semantic Data Europe conference in London.
The conference aims to discuss and inform delegates on Taxonomies, Ontologies, and Knowledge Graphs. I was asked to join the end of the event panel again, just like last year, to participate in a lively discussion with all delegates.
I attend many conferences as part of my day job, and they tend to be very varied in quality and usefulness of content. Semantic Data Europe breaks this tendency. Every session (just like last year) was genuinely interesting and/or valuable. Featuring presentations from leading businesses, including Ikea and AstraZeneca, the sessions themselves were high quality, and the presenters interesting and engaging experts. Believe me, this is rare!
The conference prides itself in pragmatic, real-world examples of the user of Taxonomies, Ontologies, and Knowledge Graphs.
This of course, includes the pervasive presence of “AI” related content, of which there was much.
As part of the compelling panel session, entitled “Will AI Take My Job,” I joined two other speakers where we received a wide range of semantically themed delegate questions from the philosophical, to the practical. All of which resulted in debate and interesting opinion. I’m really hoping I’ll be invited back next year and speak again. If not, I’ll be attending the London event anyway – it’s too good to miss. There is so much hype about semantic technologies, it’s a refreshing change to hear clear, informative debate on the subject, from people who’ve been there and done it.
In the meantime, the next conference takes place in New York in October this year.
